The idea

Keep the session close to the instrument.

The design explores a focused way to record: make a sound choice, play a part, then bring the tracks together.

Tape reels, transport controls, and eight mixer channels give the interface a physical reference point. The intention is to keep recording choices and the mix visible in a single workspace.

The intended workflow

From a sound choice to an eight-track mix.

These steps describe the proposed experience. Working recording features are not demonstrated here.

  1. Choose a sound

The proposed workflow starts with choosing the sound and recording settings before a take.

  2. Capture a part

The design pairs each take with a settings card, keeping its recording choices close to the track.

  3. Balance the tracks

An eight-channel mixer is designed to bring the parts together, with transport and mix controls in the same window.

The Leggett Labs contribution

Shaping the recording experience.

The work shown here is the interface design: a tape-inspired visual language, an eight-channel layout, and a proposed flow connecting sound choices, take settings, and mixing.

It is an exploration of how a focused application can organize a creative workflow around the person using it.
